Labor Day in Lafayette Indiana

September 04, 2010 By: Scott Whitley Category: Events

The Labor Day weekend is here and the family and city celebrations have begun. Not all of the city celebrations are centered on celebrating Labor Day but they are worthy to attend just the same. Global Fest, Hanna Fest, the Lafayette Citizens Band season finale are all going on this weekend just to name a few. But lets not forget the celebration that many enjoy the most on this holiday, the backyard barbecue.

The celebration of Labor day is often thought of as a “last of Summer” time to kick back and enjoy the warm weather, family and friends, and good barbecue on the grill.

I can say with all candor that I love a good steak or a bratwurst fresh from the grill. The meat seared on the outside to just the right look and taste. Makes my mouth water just to talk about it.

Or maybe you are a sports fan. This weekend is a great time to catch a ballgame and see your favorite team beat the socks off their opponents. Although sadly enough we can’t all have the winning team in every game. Which is another reason why we have barbecue! There are no losers in that game unless you are eating at your best friend’s house and know without a doubt that he can’t barbecue worth a darn and you just can’t seem to hurt his feelings by bowing out of his celebration this year. Oh well.

Whatever your choice of enjoyment or food this holiday weekend please remember to be safe and responsible. Lets celebrate many more Lafayette Indiana Labor Days in the years to come. And while you’re at it, maybe you better go check the grill, you don’t want to burn up your brats!

Global Fest

September 01, 2010 By: Scott Whitley Category: Events

Hello everyone. Welcome to the inaugural post from bloglafayette.com. My name is Scott Whitley and I am proud to be a citizen of the great town of Lafayette Indiana! I moved here from Illinois about 6 years ago and Lafayette has become home. I love the fact that Lafayette is a town that is not standing still. When you move to Lafayette from a more rural town one of the first things that you notice is that there is always something going on to interest just about every type of person.

One of my personal favorites is to go out to Wolf Park located just North of Battleground Indiana, and just a few minutes drive from downtown Lafayette, to see the wolves howl on a Saturday nights. I know, I know, maybe not everyone’s idea of excitement, but I find it to be great and the wolves are fascinating.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend then head on over to West Lafayette this Saturday, September 4, 2010 from 10am to 9pm and enjoy the food and entertainment of Global Fest. It is a festival celebrating diversity in the Lafayette area which is home to people from about 120 different countries around the world. For more information about this event go to the City of West Lafayette Global Fest page www.westlafayette.in.gov/department/division.php?fDD=8-114 to see a timetable of events for the day. Whatever you do, please do it safely! We want you around for a long time.
