Rick DeArmond Heating and Cooling Does Great Work

January 26, 2011 By: Scott Whitley Category: Community, Life, Local Businesses

One of the things that I enjoy the most about writing bloglafayette is the opportunity to get to highlight the people and businesses around town who exhibit excellence in the services that they offer. This week I get to spotlight another such business.

Recently we started noticing increased noise and vibration coming from our Goodman furnace so I picked up the phone book and started calling around to all the repair people in town who work on heating and cooling systems and especially Goodman systems. I called quite a few people and got all the particulars for each, price, availability, etc. When all was said and done we decided to give Rick DeArmond a try.

Rick DeArmond is a Goodman Heating and Air Conditioning certified dealer based in Lafayette Indiana. We scheduled with him to have the maintenance done the next day a 2pm. He was very polite on the phone and when I told him what we were wanting him to check, he seemed knowledgeable and had an idea of what he would check when he got to our home the next day.

The next day while I was at work, my wife, who has her own business was working in her home office just before time for the appointment. Rick called Leah and told her that he was on his way but he might be a couple of minutes late because the repair he had just finished took a little longer than planned. As it was, he was so close to his appointment time that the call was really unnecessary but at the same time it was a welcome sign of someone who takes their appointments seriously.

He proceeded to clean and check our system and to tie up some water pipes that were up against the duct work of our unit fairly close to the blower. He did this to keep them from vibrating against the duct work. He was quick, professional, and courteous with my wife. He only charged $60 for the service call and also gave us some good advice on care of our central air unit.

All and all, he was a great service person, and he is obviously a business owner who believes in giving the best service possible at the best price. We will be using his services in the future!

Blogging Tips Day Four – Theme Templates

December 09, 2010 By: Scott Whitley Category: Blogging Tips

You have decided what your niche is going to be and what kind of blogging platform you are going to use. What comes next? Now is the time to make sure that your blog has a look and style that you can be comfortable with. That means picking a theme for your blog.

All blogging platforms come with a basic theme set to choose from. If you are going to be writing a blog about what you and your friends did last week or what you had for breakfast this morning then pick a theme that is simple but fun. My wife is a fan of books and writing. Her blog, http://www.seasonedwithtime.com/hisandherblog/ has a theme based on writing paper and chalkboards. It is fun and has a more personal feel and it reflects who she is. My blog theme is more squared off and official looking. I am trying for a professional look. If I were writing about baseball then I would possibly have a theme with some baseball imagery incorporated into it.

The point I am making is this, your theme should match your niche and your goals for the blog. If you want to make money or be taken seriously when you offer information and opinions then choose a professional theme. If all you want to do is vent or have fun then choose a fun theme.

Depending upon which platform you decide to use to set up your blog, you can have quite a selection of themes to choose from. If your blog is a WordPress blog, go into the Dashboard, then Appearance, and then Themes. Once in the Themes section if you want to find more themes to use then go to the Install Themes area and perform a search. WordPress has many free themes available for use, and many themes that can be purchased as well. Purchasing a theme gives you more options and more tech support for the theme. Each blog platform has its own method of navigating and changing themes.

Whatever your platform, it is important to take the time to look at the themes available. Now is the time to make sure you like the way your blog looks to the world. This is where you start to make it YOUR blog.

Tecumseh Dental Center, Making Smiles in Lafayette Brighter

September 29, 2010 By: Scott Whitley Category: Local Businesses

If you are like me, going to the dentist is not very high on your list of highly desirable activities. I won’t go into the details of why people might feel that way but instead I want to talk about a dentists office that I don’t dread going to see. The place I am speaking of is Tecumseh Dental Center.

I have been going to Tecumseh Dental Center at 1709 Teal Road in Lafayette for several years now. I can honestly say that I have always had a pleasant time at this dentists office. I know. You might be asking, “How is that even possible?” or “How pleasant can a trip to have your teeth worked on be?” In the case of Tecumseh Dental Center, surprisingly pleasant. I have always enjoyed their warm personalities and their professionalism. The dentists and the techs who clean teeth are always friendly and all are quick to engage in conversation. They seem to actually care about what is going on in the lives of their patients and that is a nice touch in this fast paced world that we live in.

As for their ability to perform their duties? They are great. I have had different procedures done through the years and have never had any problems. They all know how to do their jobs, plain and simple. I do not lightly recommend any service or professional but I am not a bit shy about recommending Tecumseh Dental Center to anyone looking for a dentist that they can visit for their dental needs for years to come. You can go to their website to read more about them or to contact them for an appointment. You won’t be disappointed.
